KINGSTON, R.I. - University of Rhode Island sophomore Ashhad Agyapong (Trenton, N.J.) was named Atlantic 10 Men's Track & Field Performer of the Week for the second-straight week after winning both the 200 and 400 meter dashes at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games on Jan. 28.
Agyapong captured the gold in the 200 dash in 21.68 seconds and also took first in the 400 dash in 47.8 in leading the Rams to a first-place finish out of 14 teams. Both of his times for the weekend are NCAA provisional qualifying marks and he has already qualified for the IC4As in both events.
The defending Atlantic 10 champion Rams have won both of their scoring meets this season and boast three-straight Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week awards, including the two-straight by Agyapong and one for senior Andre' Reid (South Windsor, Conn.), who set the school shot put record on Jan. 15.
Rhode Island returns to action on Saturday when the Rams host the Rhody Mega Meet at 4 p.m. in Mackal Field House. It will be the Rams' last home meet before hosting the Atlantic 10 Championship on Saturday Feb. 19.
