BOSTON, Mass. - Sophomore Ashhad Agyapong (Trenton, N.J.) won both the 200 and 400 meter dashes as the University of Rhode Island men's track & field team took first place out of 14 schools at the Reebok Boston Indoor Games on Friday at Northeastern University.
The Rams scored 104.50 points to remain undefeated, improving to 20-0 after two scoring meets this winter. Albany took second with 93 points, Northeastern followed in third with 82.50 and Connecticut finished fourth with 79 points.
Agyapong, the reigning Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week, won the 200 dash in 21.68 seconds and took first in the 400 dash in 47.8 seconds.
Senior Andre' Reid (South Windsor, Conn.) won the shot put with a toss of 57-3 and took fourth in the weight throw (53-2.25). Sophomore Darnell Douglas (Delmar, N.Y.) won the 500 in a time of 1:05.28.
Senior Evan Lima (Warwick, R.I.) finished second in the high jump with a leap of 6-6, while junior Adam Zucconi (Marlton, N.J.) and freshman Sean Strizzi (Norwalk, Conn.) tied for second in the pole vault, clearing 14-6.
Senior Sean Bramly (New Paltz, N.Y.) finished fourth in the shot with a throw of 48-10.25 and freshman Ryan McCarthy (Worcester, Mass.) took sixth with a toss of 47-.25.
Sophomore Christopher Adams (Selden, N.Y.) finished fifth in the long jump in 22-2.25. Sophomore LaeJon Brooks (West Orange, N.J.) placed seventh in the 55 hurdles in 7.79 seconds and sophomore Bremen deHaan (Galloway, N.J.) took eighth in 7.8 seconds.
Rhode Island returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 5 when the Rams host the Rhody Mega Meet at 4 p.m. in Mackal Field House.
