KINGSTON, R.I. - Sophomore sprinter Ashhad Agyapong (Trenton, N.J.) was named Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week after posting a pair of first-place finishes in leading the Rams to victory in the Sorlien Memorial Invitational, which URI hosted on Friday in Mackal Field House.
Agyapong was responsible for 26 of the Rams' 158 points in the meet. He won the 200-meter dash in a time of 21.99 seconds and finished first in the 400 dash in 48.40 seconds. Agyapong placed third in the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.56 seconds.
The Rams scored 158 points to win the eight-team meet named in honor of longtime University of Rhode Island professor and track enthusiast Robert "Sparks" Sorlien. Pennsylvania finished second with 134 points, 24 behind the Rams, and Brown placed third with 123 points.
This was the second-straight week that the Rams' boasted the conference's Performer of the Week. Senior Andre' Reid (South Windsor, Conn.) took the honor last week for his school record 58 feet, 4 inches.
