KINGSTON, R.I. - University of Rhode Island senior Karsten Stammen (Helberstadt, Germany) finished fourth in the URI Invitational, held Thursday and Friday at Mackal Field House.
Stammen scored 4,667 points to take fourth. William Thomas, competing as an individual, won the heptathlon with 5,739 points. Connecticut's Sean Berg finished second with 4,911 points and UConn's Michael Delgado was third with 4,886 points.
Stammen finished the 60-meter dash in 7.30 seconds, jumped 21 feet, 1.5 inches in the long jump, cleared 5-8.75 in the high jump and topped 12-11 in the pole vault. He threw the shot 42-9, ran the 60 high hurdles in 8.80 seconds and crossed the line in 2:57.30 in the 1,000 run.
Junior Patrick Mills (Bay Shore, N.Y.) finished seventh with 4,156 points. Mills ran a 7.30 in the 60 dash, jumped 19-5.25 in the long jump, threw the shot 33-8.75 and cleared 5-8.75 in the high jump. Mills ran an 8.70 in the 60 high hurdles, cleared 9-11.75 in the pole vault and ran the 1,000 in 2:59.00.
