BOSTON, Mass. - University of Rhode Island senior Andre' Reid (South Windsor, Conn.) broke his own school record and posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the shot put in the Rams' season-opener at the BU All-Comers Meet Saturday.
Reid, the defending Atlantic 10 indoor and outdoor shot put champion, finished second in the shot with a throw of 58 feet, 4 inches, breaking his old school record of 56-9.
Sophomore Ashhad Agyapong (Trenton, N.J.) won the 200-meter dash in 21.68 seconds and took third in the 55-meter dash in 6.53. Sophomore Darnell Douglas (Delmar, N.Y.) won the 500 run in 1:05.65 and junior Leandro Bonvehi (Providence, R.I.) took third in that event in 1:06.38.
Freshman Denis Street Jr. (Slate Hill, N.Y.) placed third in the long jump with a distance of 21-6. Sophomore Daniel Godin (Coventry, R.I.) took third in the weight throw with a heave of 55-6.50 and sophomore Paul Chobanian (Providence, R.I.) finished fifth with a toss of 5-00.75.
Freshman David Delude (Pawtucket, R.I.) finished in a tie for fourth in the high jump, clearing 6-2. In the pole vault, junior Adam Zucconi (Marlton, N.J.) and freshman Sutton Underwood (Norwalk, Conn.) tied for fouth at 13-11.25.
Senior Sean Bramley (New Paltz, N.Y.) finished fourth in the shot put (50-2.75) and freshman Ryan McCarthy (Worcester, Mass.) followed in fifth (46-2.75). Freshman Thomas Opp (Hudson, Mass.) finished fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 41-3 and freshman Brendan Lamboy (Warwick, R.I.) took seventh in the 55 dash in 6.83.
The Rams return to action on Friday when they host the Sorlien Invitational at 1:00 p.m.
