KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island men's and women's track and field teams will travel to Dedham, Mass. on Saturday for the Northeastern University Snowflake Classic. The meet will take place at the Solomon Track and is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
The men performed well at Northeastern's Husky Spring Open this time last year, having had athletes place within the top three in 11 of the 19 events. Highlights include Eric Groce (Rutland, Vt.) placing second in the 100m with a time of 11.08, and Rob Johnson (Rumford, R.I.) grabbed first with his time of 49.97 in the 400m. Colin Aina (East Providence, R.I.) placed first in the 110m high hurdles with his time of 14.20 and in the long jump with his reach of 6.91m. Jamie Finneran (Kittery, Maine) threw for first in the javelin reaching 61.24m.
The women did not compete at the Husky Spring Open last year so are looking to make a solid performance and continue from the impressive Indoor Track and Field season which was highlighted by their Atlantic 10 Conference Championship win.
For the next meet following the Snowflake Classic, the men's team will travel to College Park, Md. to compete in the Maryland Invitational on Saturday, April 3.
The Duke Invitational is next on the schedule for women's track and field, hosted at Durham, N.C. on Friday and Saturday, April 2-3.
