Rhode Island Men's Track & Field To Start Off Their 2002-2003 Season

Kingston, R.I. - The Rhode Island Rams men's track and field team will be looking ahead to this weekend for the start of their 2002-2003 season. The Rams kick off the season in Boston, Mass at Northeastern on Saturday 7, 2002 at 10:00 a.m.

The weight throw, pole vault and long jump will begin the field events. Following the weight throw the shot put competition will kick off. At the end of the long jump, triple jumpers will begin, and high jumpers will end the field events at the culmination of hurdles and the dash.

All field event competitors will receive four attempts, with no finals being contested.

Track events will begin concurrently to field events starting off with the 5000m followed by the mile. The 400m, 500m, etc will take place within the track's oval and hurdles and dash trials as well as finals will be located in the infield.

Returning for the Rams this season is junior co-captain and 2001 New England 55m high hurdles champion Colin Aina. Senior co-captain, William Johnson, last years Atlantic 10 outdoor hammer throw champion and All-East ICAAAA outdoor scorer, as well as sophomore Chad Washington, Atlantic 10's indoor triple jump champion. In addition to sophomore Andre Reid, 2001 Golden West shot put champion, who this season will begin his first indoor campaign.
