Lewisburg, Pa. - The Rhode Island Rams men's track and field team tied for second at the Bucknell Five-Way in Lewisburg, Pa. on Saturday, April 19th.
Top performers for the Rams in field events were sophomore Kevin Lopes (Portsmouth, R.I.) who placed first in the high jump with his reach of 6-3, junior tri-captain Colin Aina (East Providence, R.I.) who placed first in the 110 hurdles (14.00), second in the long jump (6.90) and first in the 400 IM-section 2 (53.16).
Newcomer Andre Reid (South Windsor, Conn.) placed third in the shot put (16-02), and hammer (46.03) while sophomore Sean Bramley (New Platz, N.Y.) threw for second in the hammer (49.35) and discus (48.78).
Senior tri-captain Bret Matthews (Scarborough, Maine) placed second in the pole vault (4.57) while Rhode Island swept the javelin with sophomore Jamie Finneran (Kittery, Maine) taking first (56.74), freshman Dustin Bilbruck (Gillespie, Ill.) grabbing second (54.61) and Reid placing third (53.92).
Junior Jesse Andoscia (North Kingstown, R.I.) placed third in the 400 IM-section 2 with a time of 55.48 as well as placing first in the 100m-section 2 with a time of 11.19. Freshman Rob Johnston (Rumford, R.I.) placed third in the 400m-section 3 (49.38) and second in the 200m-section 3 with is time of 22.62.
The Rams three relay teams pulled together in the end with the 4x100 placing third (43.17), the 4x400 placing first (3:15.62) and the 4x800 placing third (8:29.62) to help Rhode Island secure a second place tie.
Rhode Island will compete again when the Rams travel to Philadelphia to compete at the Penn Relays from Thursday, April 24th, through Saturday, April 26th, at 9:00 a.m. each morning.
