KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island track and field freshman Rob Scales (Red Bank, NJ) has been named this week's conference Rookie of the Week for the first time in his collegiate career.
At the Colonial Relays hosted by William & Mary this past weekend Scales placed fifth in the javelin with a mark of 208-3. In addition to placing fifth Scales became an NCAA Regional qualifier.
The throw marks the second best currently in the Conference.
Scales attended Middletown South High School were he was named captain 2001 and 2002, earned All-American status when he placed 3rd at the National Scholastic High School Championships, he was crowned the Shore Conference and Central Jersey Group III champion in the javelin, and named team most valuable player in 2001 and 2002.
As a team Rhode Island placed sixth out of 22 competing teams.
