KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island Rams men's track and field team placed second with a score of 147.50 at their own Mega Meet on Saturday. Competing in the Mega Meet with the Rams were Brown, Central Connecticut, Hartford, New Hampshire, New Haven, Quinnipiac, and Southern Connecticut.
In field events, senior tri-captain William Johnston (Warwick. R.I.) placed third in the weight throw with his reach of 53-04 1/4. In the 55m high hurdles junior tri-captain, also a Rhode Island native, Colin Aina (Providence, R.I.) grabbed a gold with his time of 7.30. In addition to placing first Aina's time has earned him a spot on the NCAA provisional qualifying list. Aina also grabbed the first place spot in the long jump with his reach of 22-09 3/4. Also in the long jump junior Chad Washington (Monticello, N.Y.) placed third with his jump of 22-05. Taking second in the shot put was sophomore Sean Bramley (New Platz, N.Y.) with his throw of 48-06 1/4.
In track events, freshman Rob Johnson (Rumford, R.I.) placed second in the 400m dash with his time of 50.41. In the 500m run junior Jesse Andoscia (North Kingstown, R.I.) placed first with his time of 1:06.99. In the 55m dash Washington grabbed a second place finish with his time of 6.55 and also grabbing a second place finish was Aina with his time of 22.48 in the 200m dash.
In the 4x400m relay Rhode Island grabbed a third place finish with their time of 3:25.76.
The Rams will compete again on Saturday, February 15 at 10:00 a.m. when they travel to Boston, Mass. to compete in the Fast Track Invitational.
