Men's Track And Field Take Second At The Connecticut Quad Meet

Storrs, Conn. - The Rhode Island men's track and field team grabbed a second place finish at the Connecticut Quad meet Friday January 31, 2003.

In the 55-meter dash junior Chad Washington (Monticello, N.Y.) grabbed a second place finish with his time of 6.57. Freshman Corey Draffen (New Bedford, Mass.) and junior Colin Aina (Providence, R.I.) ran as a one two punch for the Rams in the 200m dash finishing first and second respectively with their times of 23.02 and 23.13. In the 400m dash junior Jesse Andoscia (North Kingstown, R.I.) scored himself a first place spot with a time of 50.55 and freshman Rob Johnson (Rumford, R.I.) grabbed second with his time of 51.20. Sophomore Kevin Lopes (Portsmouth, R.I.) slide into a third place spot with his time of 1:06.87 in the 500m run rounding out the track events for Rhode Island.

In field events, Aina earned a gold in the 55m high hurdles with his time of 7.45, while both relay teams scored in the top three. The 4x400 team earned a second place spot with a time of 3:22.94 and the 4x800 team scored a third coming in at 8:37.39.

In the jumps, sophomore Evan Lima (Warwick, R.I.) grabbed second reaching 6-06.00, while Aina and freshman Dustin Bilbruck (Gillespie, Ill.) came in second and third the long jump with distances of 23-00 and 22-05. In the triple jump, Washington made his second appearance of the meet and a second place finish jumping for a distance of 46-05 and Lima came in third with his jump of 44-00. Senior William Johnston (Warwick, R.I.) grabbed a first place finish in the weight throw with his throw of 57-08 to finish out the meet for the Rams.
