Men's Track And Field Take The Terrier Cup With A Score Of 175

Boston, Mass. - The Rhode Island men's track and field team grabbed a victory at the Boston University Terrier Cup this Saturday in the Boston University Pavilion.

Freshman Eric Groce (Rutland, Vt.) won the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.64 while sophomore Steve Miceli (Mashpee, Mass.) came in just behind Groce (6.65) and freshman Corey Draffen (New Bedford, Mass.) grabbed third (6.69) sweeping the event for Rhode Island.

Junior Jesse Andoscia (North Kingstown, R.I) stole the third place slot in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:07.18 while fellow Rhode Island native and junior Colin Aina (Providence, R.I.) won the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.45.

The Rams 4 x 400 team grabbed the third place slot with a time of 3:25.31 just shy of the second spot (3:25.29).

In field events, sophomore Evan Lima (Portsmouth, R.I.) won the high jump with his jump of 1.93 meters while Draffen made another appearance and won a third place spot with a jump of 1.88m. In the pole vault, freshman Adam Zucconi (Marlton, N.J.) grabbed first place with his jump of 4.15m.

Rhode Island cornered the long jump event when Aina grabbed first place jumping 6.96m while junior Chad Washington (Monticello, N.Y.) earned second with a jump of 6.77m and sophomore Jonathan Green (Great Neck, N.Y.) slipped into third jumping 6.46m.

Washington and Green also made second appearances and wins in the triple jumping coming in first and second with a distance of 14.35m and 13.88m.

In throwing events, freshman Andre Reid (South Windsor, Conn.) threw for a first place spot in the shot put with a distance of 14.73m and sophomore Sean Bramley (New Platz, N.Y.) grabbed second (14.56m). In the weight throw senior tri-captain William Johnston (Warwick, R.I.) earned first place with a throw of 16.83m, while Bramley and Reid each made duel appearances and throws tying for third (14.66m).

Rhode Island track and field will be back in action on Friday Jan. 24th at 3:00 p.m. when they travel to Maine in a change from their originally scheduled first home meet.
