Men's Track and Field Captures Maryland Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Rhode Island men's outdoor track and field team took first place at the Maryland Terrapin Invitational on Saturday. The Rams team score of 253.50 easily outdistanced second place Northeastern (212) and host Maryland (170.50).

Rhode Island used six first place finishes in the 19 events en route to the team title. Senior Brian Norton (North Kingstown, R.I.) led the way for the Rams, taking first place in the 800 meters (1:57.50) and the 1500 meters (4:02.37) while fellow senior James Rooney (Carver, Mass.) notched a first place finish in the shot put (50'6.25") and a second place finish in the discus (142'4"). Senior Todd Bianco (Greenville, R.I.) captured the 3000 meter steeplechase (9:51.08) while the Rams 4x400 meter relay team rounded out the first place finishes (3:20.19)

The Rams return to action on Saturday, April 7 when they travel to Storrs, Conn. for the Connecticut Invitational, starting at 11:00 a.m.
