PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Junior James Rooney was named the Atlantic 10 Men's Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week for the second consecutive time and freshman Kelly Hagner was named the A-10's Women's Indoor Track and Field Rookie of the Week, announced today.
Rooney broke a 32-year-old school record in the shot put at the URI Invitational with a mark of 55'6 1/4", and currently leads the Atlantic 10 in that event. The Carver, Mass., native also posted a first-place finish in the weight throw (57'5 3/4). Rooney placed first in both the shot and the weight throw in each of Rhode Island's last two meets, and was named Performer of the Week following both occasions.
Hagner, a thrower from Clifton Park, N.Y., took first place in the shot put at Saturday's URI Invitational on Saturday with a 41'8" - the best mark of any URI thrower this season. Hagner's performance also ranks second best in the Atlantic 10 and helped the Rams finish second in the eight-team field.
