KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island redshirt sophomore Edvin Akselsen has been named to College Soccer News' National Team of the Week after factoring into all three Rhody goals in Saturday's 3-1 win over Fordham. Akselsen also collected the Atlantic 10's Offensive Player of the Week award for his four-point performance in the conference victory.
After visiting Fordham took a 1-0 lead just over three minutes into the game, Alseksen set up Filippo Tamburini's 14th-minute equalizer to get the Rams back in it. Fifteen minutes later, he scored what proved to be the game-winning goal on a shot to the back corner of the net.
The Oslo, Norway native later assisted on Stavros Zarokostas' insurance goal in the 75th minute.
Akselsen currently leads the Atlantic 10 in assists (7) and ranks fourth in points per game (1.22).
The Rams are back in action Wednesday night when they host La Salle at 7 p.m.
