KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island's Jason Short and Chris Francoeur have collected weekly Atlantic 10 accolades, announced Thursday by the conference office. Both golfers played a key role in leading the Rams to the team title at Lafayette's Coca-Cola Invitational this past weekend.
Short - who earned Co-Golfer of the Week accolades - tied for first overall in Rhody's first tournament of the spring season. After carding a 2-over 74 in the opening round, he birdied six holes - and eagled the par-4 12th - to finish the second round in 68 strokes. His second-round 68 matched his career-low and tied for the low individual round of the tournament.
The Marlboro, Mass. native also led the field of 96 in par-5 scoring at -6.
Francoeur - one of two golfers to earn Co-Rookie of the Week honors - tied for 22nd overall at the Coca-Cola Invitational, finishing the 36 hole tournament six-over par (150). He shot a 74 in the morning round, and picked up two strokes the second time through, carding a 76 in the afternoon. Overall, the Amesbury, Mass. native parred 23 of 36 holes and collected four birdies.
Short shared A-10 Golfer of the Week honors with George Washington's Logan Lowe, while Saint Joseph's Wills Montgomery joined Francoeur as the league's Rookies of the Week.
