KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island golf team opens the spring portion of its schedule on Sunday, April 1 at the 2018 Abarta Coca-Cola Lehigh Valley Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Lafayette. Due to poor weather forecasts for Monday, both rounds of the 36-hole event - which will take place at The Steel Club (formerly Silver Creek Country Club) - will be played on Sunday.
In addition to the host Leopards, URI will compete against Binghamton, Bryant, Connecticut, Fordham, Hofstra, Holy Cross, Lehigh, Monmouth, Niagara, University of Ottawa, Rider, Robert Morris, Siena and Villanova.
The Steel Club's championship course is a 6,655-yard, par-72 loop that was established in 1934. The course was designed by famed golf course architect Donald Ross. The facility features a practice putting green, a short range practice area and a practice range with yardage markers from 50 to 275 yards.
The Rams - who were picked to finish seventh in the Atlantic 10's preseason coaches poll - are led by junior Dawson Jones, who finished the fall season with a team-best 72.7 stroke average.
