Murphy Named to Hero Sports Preseason First Team All-America Squad

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island senior left tackle Kyle Murphy has been named a First Team Preseason All-America honoree by Hero Sports, the outlet announced Thursday afternoon.

Murphy - who has started 25 consecutive games for Rhode Island - was one of 35 FCS players nationally to be named to the first team. He also was one of seven first-team selections from CAA Football, joining the James Madison trio of defensive back Rashad Robinson, defensive lineman John Daka and return specialist D'Angelo Amos; Maine defensive back Manny Patterson; and kicker Aidan O'Neill and all-purpose player Shane Simpson from Towson.

As a junior, Murphy earned CAA Football First Team All-Conference recognition, as well as a spot on the New England Football Writer's Association All-New England Team. He was a major reason Rhode Island averaged 121.6 yards per game on the ground last season, the team's highest per game average since 2013.

Rhody also ran for 15 touchdowns, the team's highest total in 11 seasons. Murphy led the team with 40 pancake blocks on the year.

Murphy and the Rams open the 2019 season at Ohio on Aug. 31.
