KINGSTON, R.I. – For the third straight week, Rhode Island moved up in both national polls, hopping up to No. 22 in the STATS FCS Top 25 Poll and jumping to No. 20 in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll, both released Monday.
Despite having a bye week, the Rams climbed one spot in the STATS FCS Top 25, getting 685 points in the poll. The increase of 154 points from last week's poll put Rhody one spot behind Sam Houston State, which received 861 points. The Rams had a sizeable lead over No. 23 Northern Iowa, which came in with 413 points.
In the AFCA FCS Coaches Top 25, Rhode Island moved up three spots. Once again, the Rams were sandwiched between No. 19 Sam Houston State and No. 21, Northern Iowa, the same teams surrounding the Rams in STATS poll.
There were seven CAA Football teams in the latest STATS FCS Poll, and six in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll. James Madison (2/2), Elon (11/9), Villanova (13/14), Maine (16/16) and Stony Brook (18/17) were all in both polls along with Rhode Island. Towson was No. 25 in the STATS poll, and it was No. 26 in the coaches poll.
Rhode Island gets back into action Friday night when it travels to Harvard for a non-conference game on ESPN+. Harvard received 30 points in the STATS FCS poll and nine points in the AFCA Coaches poll.
