Russell Named Co-Atlantic 10 Player of the Week

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island junior Fatts Russell was named Co-Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, along with Saint Louis junior Hasahn French, the league announced Monday afternoon.

Russell averaged 24.0 points, 5.0 assists, 3.7 steals and 3.0 rebounds per game while leading Rhode Island to a 2-1 week. He was consistent in the three games, scoring 24 in a win over Nicholls, 22 in a win over North Texas and 26 in a loss to LSU. The guard from Philadelphia had at least three steals in all three games, getting five against Nicholls. Russell also had six assists against Nicholls and a career-high eight more versus LSU. He was 20-of-23 at the free throw line and 8-for-22 from 3-point range. He has topped 20 points in four straight games overall.

This is the second career A-10 Player of the Week honor for Russell, and his third weekly league honor overall. He also earned Rookie of the Week honors once as a freshman.

Through the first six games of the season, Russell is leading Rhode Island in scoring (19.5 points per game), 3-point field goals (12), free throws made (31) and attempted (36), assists (31) and steals (21). He has a 3.9-1 assist-turnover ratio thus far. 

French averaged 15 points per game and 16.5 rebounds per game in a pair of Billiken wins last week against High Point and Belmont. He had a career game against Belmont, posting 21 points, a remarkable 24 rebounds, a career-high seven blocked shots and four assists. The 24 rebounds tied the A-10 single-game record and is tied (with George Washington's Arnaldo Toro) for the most in an NCAA game this season. The forward from Middletown, N.Y., also nearly had a double-double against High Point with nine points and nine rebounds. He had two blocked shots and became the Billikens' all-time leader in that category during the High Point game.
