Jeff Roy joined Raphael Cerrato's coaching staff as a student assistant coach in September of 2017.

A familiar face to the program, Roy played centerfield for URI from 2011-13. In his three seasons with the Rams, the speedy lefty hit .327 for his career with a .429 slugging percentage and a .416 on-base percentage. Overall, he recorded 199 hits, 139 runs, 70 RBI and 61 stolen bases. His junior year alone, he was a perfect 30-for-30 in stolen base attempts.

Highlighting his heavily-decorated playing career were All-America accolades and Atlantic 10 Player of the Year honors in 2012. A year later, at the end of his junior campaign, he was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 18th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft.

The Cranston, R.I. native went on to play professionally, from 2013-16, and represented the National League team at the 2013 New York-Penn League All-Star Game. He also earned the Roberto Clemente Award for Community Service from the Pirates.

Roy was an assistant coach with Division III Salve Regina in 2017, helping the Seahawks set a program record with 36 victories while advancing to the NCAA Division III New England Baseball Regional. Since 2014, Roy has worked as a baseball instructor for Extra Innings in Warwick, R.I.
