KINGSTON, R.I. - Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth, freshman David Hopkins singled for Team Navy and eventually came around to score on an error, knotting the score at one apiece and forcing extra innings. There, redshirt sophomore Derek Gardella ripped a double into the left field gap to set up senior Andre Malone's game-winning hit that give Navy a 1-0 advantage in the annual fall ball series vs. Team Camo.

Freshman Steve Lapatin earned the win on the mound, tossing four shutout innings and fanning three without allowing a hit. He came on in the third in relief of redshirt freshman starter Matt Ferraiolo, who struck out two and was charged with one unearned run.

Hopkins paced the Navy offense, reaching three times on a single and two walks. Camo was led by junior Dario Medrano, who had a pair of hits, a stolen base and his team's only run of the afternoon.

The teams will return to The Beck for Game 2, Friday at 3:45 p.m.
