Omar King is in his first year with the Rhode Island coachingstaff, joining the Rams in February 2013 as the wide receiverscoach. 

King comes from Division II Long Island University-C.W. Post,where he had coached the running backs since 2007. At C.W. Post,King also was academic coordinator.

At Post, King helped implement a fast-paced, no-huddle offense. Hecoached the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference’stop-ranked rushing offense, and in 2009, he coached Thomas Beverlyto Rookie of the Year honors and a spot on the All-ConferenceFirst-Team squad.

During his time at C.W. Post, the Pioneers went from the bottom ofthe conference in 2008 to co-champions in 2011. In addition tocoaching the running backs, he also was the team’s videocoordinator.

Before joining the staff at C.W. Post, King was the running backscoach and special teams coordinator at Iona College from 2002-07.In 2006, he coached Dane Smauels to MAAC Player of the Year honors,and in 2003, he coached Nat Modica to Offensive Rookie of the Yearand First-Team All-Conference honors.

As a player, King was a running back at Hofstra, where he playedfor longtime head coach Joe Gardi. Also on the coaching staff atthe time were current Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood andquarterbacks coach Rob Spence.
