PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Rhode Island sophomore Rachel Smilansky made it to the final round of qualifying at the ITA Northeast Regionals Presented by Oracle, but was eliminated from the singles competition Wednesday afternoon.
Smilansy opened the competition by defeating Connecticut's Cassie Chung in three sets, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the opening round of qualifying. She advanced to face Jacie Cochrane from Rutgers Thursday afternoon. Smilansy again went three sets, but came up just short, falling 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
Rhode Island will have several women competing Friday on the second day of the ITA Northeast Regionals. Smilansky and freshman Halah Davis will face Bryant's team of Linnea Sjoberg and Caterina Louisa Rokke. Sophomore Mihaela Codreanu will play in the singles draw, going against Hofstra's Michal Kaplan.
