KINGSTON, R.I. -- The University of Rhode Island athletics marketing department won the gold medal award at the 2011 National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA) "Best Of" Awards ceremony for the 2010-11 academic year.
Rhode Island captured top honors in the top Season Ticket Sales Campaign category for the ExperienceRhody.com website. It is the first national NACMA award for the URI Athletics Department.
"I am extremely proud of the efforts of Adam Schemm and the marketing office, as well as all our external efforts," said Thorr Bjorn, URI's director of athletics. "As we continue to make an effort to sell season tickets, we will continue to look to do so in the most creative way possible."
The awards, which are administered by the National Association for Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), currently feature 18 different categories. The 2011 NACMA award winners were publicly recognized on Friday, June 17 as part of its annual convention to be held at the World Resort Marriott in Orlando, Fla.
"This award is a great reward for the new marketing efforts we have implemented with Rhody Athletics," said Adam Schemm, marketing director. "To be honored as the best in the country, considering all the tough competition from some outstanding schools, is humbling and inspiring and we look to continue to push the envelope for all of our sports."
This past year, the URI athletics marketing department was led by Schemm, marketing assistants Vanessa Farinelli and Derek Denard, with support from Daryl Jasper, director of business development and Maureen McCarthy, box office manager, for the Thomas M. Ryan Center.
ExperienceRhody.com was a collaborative effort between URI Athletics, Jim White, and Mediapeel.
