Jan. 4, 2008

KINGSTON, R.I. - University of Rhode Island Director of Athletics Thorr Bjorn announced today that Jaclyn Muns has been hired as Coordinator of Marketing and Promotions. Muns comes to Rhode Island after spending the 2006-07 academic year as the Asst. Marketing and Promotions Coordinator at the University of Massachusetts.

"We're extremely excited to have Jaclyn on board here at URI," said Bjorn. "She possesses the kind of energy and enthusiasm we're looking for here at Rhode Island, and she will be instrumental in many of the things we're looking to do over the course of the next several years. There are so many things this institution has to offer the state of Rhode Island, and Jaclyn will help spearhead many of our marketing campaigns to help spread the word about Rams athletics to the community."

In her new role at URI, Muns will oversee individual game, season, and group ticket sales; design marketing and promotional programs that will increase ticket revenue and fan participation; assist with planning, coordination, and implementation of in-game promotions; assist in the identification, cultivation, and stewardship of sponsors and business partners; and work with campus leaders to engage the student body to participate and attend URI events.

"I am honored to be here at URI at this time, joining a team of truly fantastic people and programs," said Muns. "I am excited to have the opportunity to contribute and be part of the current and future success of Ram athletics."

During her time at UMass, Muns helped develop and implement a marketing and promotions plan for men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, field hockey, women's lacrosse, softball, and the Minutemen men's ice hockey team, which advanced to the NCAA Tournament. For Minutemen basketball games, Muns handled game day script writing, video board production, and sponsor fulfillment. She also wrote game day marketing scripts for the UMass football games and supervised MinuteFan Park, monitored all student-workers, and assisted with the sale of ticket packages to various UMass post-season events. Muns helped create and schedule all community outreach programs, which included the Kid's Club, Birthday Party Program, National Girls & Women in Sport Day, U-Meet the Athlete Clinics, and The Maroon Platoon.

Prior to her arrival at UMass, Muns worked for the Women's Sports Foundation as an Athlete Marketing and Promotions Intern. She was instrumental in the organization of the program's annual attraction, the Annual Salute to Women in Sports Awards Dinner, which grossed $1.5 million. She was later elevated to Senior Intern, where she acted as a liaison between interns and staff members, organized and planned weekly intern schedules and activities, and trained incoming interns.

Muns is a 2005 graduate of Trinity Western University in Langley, British Columbia (Canada) and possesses a Bachelor of Arts in Sport and Leisure Management. She became the first graduate of this program, which was introduced in 2003, and was a finalist for the Female Citizenship Award in 2005. Muns is currently a member of the Women's Sports Foundation and the National Girls & Women in Sports Coalition.
