BRONX, N.Y. -- The University of Rhode Island women's cross country team placed 28th overall at the 2008 NCAA Northeast regional championship, held at Van Cortlandt Park.

The Rams totaled 842 total points in the 34-team race. Providence took the team title with 36 points.

Mary Najarian led URI with her 151st place finish. She covered the hilly six-kilometer course in a time of 24:23.2. Brittany Pelsue was the second Rhode Island finisher, in 166th place. She clocked a time of 24:40.5.

Caitrin Demchko crossed the finish line close behind her teammate, placing 168th overall (24:42.4). Emily Zaccardi (180th, 24:51.5) and Kathryn Allard (205th, 25:16.7) rounded out the URI scorers. Alyssa Namey (221st, 25:48.1) and Amy Krajewski (227th, 26:05.0) rounded out the Rhode Island finishers. Providence's Danielle Doetzel took individual honors, with a time of 20:56.5.
