Ryan Paces Rams at New England XC Championship

BOSTON -- Rhode Island placed 19th overall as a team at the 2009 New England Championship, held at Franklin Park in Boston.

Niamh Ryan led the way for URI, with her 29th place finish. Ryan covered the five-kilometer course in a time of 18:36. Mary Najarian was the second Rhody runner, finishing 56th overall in a time of 18:55.

Brittany Pelsue crossed the finish line in 129th place (19:46), followed by Caitrin Demchko (132nd, 19:47). Haley Mathewson rounded out the Rhode Island scorers, in 150th place (19:53).

Alyssa Namey (198th, 20:33) and Samantha Gagnon (208th, 20:43) rounded out the Rams' finishers.

Rhode Island returns to action on Oct. 31, when they travel to St. Louis for the Atlantic 10 Championship.
