PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - University of Rhode Island freshman volleyball player Kayla Newberg (Deer Park, Wash.) has been named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team.

Newberg finished second on the Rams with 236 kills (2.81 kpg) and 66 blocks (four solo). She appeared in 34 A-10 matches, averaging 3.00 kills per game to go along with 0.91 digs per game and 0.91 blocks per game. Newberg finished her freshman campaign with 12 service aces, 12 assists, and 72 digs, and she tallied 10 or more kills in 10 matches, highlighted by a 20-kill performance at Fordham on October 27.

Newberg is joined on the All-Rookie Team by Lindsay Fletemier (Dayton), Christi Griffiths (Fordham), Kailee May (Fordham), Katie Russell (Xavier), Nicole Wright (Duquesne), and Yun Yi Zhang (Temple). Fletemier also earned Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year honors.

Jill Quayle of Xavier was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Year while Musketeer head coach Floyd Deaton earned Coach of the Year honors. Whitney Roth (Saint Louis) garnered Setter of the Year honors, Carly Romberg (Charlotte) was named Libero of the Year, and Alma Arroyo was named Student-Athlete of the Year.
