Volleyball Announces 2009 Schedule

June 3, 2009

KINGSTON, R.I. - Four matches against NCAA tournament qualifiers and seven home meetings versus league opponents highlight the 2009 Rhode Island women's volleyball schedule, which was released today.

The 2009 season marks the 29th year for head coach Bob Schneck, who stands just three wins away of his 500th career victory. In 2008, Schneck guided the squad to a 14-14 record (5-8 Atlantic 10).

Rhody will compete in four tournaments this year, opening the season with a trip to the Hofstra University Tournament Aug. 28-29. In that tournament, the Rams will take on Hofstra, Marshall and Binghamton.

Following a match at Northeastern on Sept. 1, the Rams will open their home schedule as they take on Dartmouth (Sept. 4) beginning at 4:00 p.m.

Rhody will remain at home the following weekend as it plays host to the Art Carmichael Invitational where it will welcome New Hampshire (Sept. 11), Syracuse (Sept. 11) and Brown (Sept. 12).

The Rams wrap up their tournament schedule at the Boston College Tournament. Rhody opens the tournament against Hartford (Sept. 18) before facing Connecticut (Sept. 19) and Boston College (Sept. 19).

Rhody opens its Atlantic 10 Conference schedule on Sept. 25 against defending league champion and NCAA Tournament participant, Saint Louis. The following day, URI takes on Duquesne. In 2008, Rhody swept DU, defeating the Dukes 3-1 at home and on the road.

The following week, the Rams hit the road for a pair matches against George Washington (Oct. 2) and Charlotte (Oct. 4).

On Oct. 9-10, Rhode Island returns Keaney Gymnasium for its final home league matches of the month as it faces off against Xavier (Oct. 9) and Dayton (Oct. 10). Rhody will play host to a pair of non-league home matches against Central Connecticut State (Oct. 21) and Providence College (Oct. 27).

In between its final two home matches in the month of October, URI will make trips to La Salle (Oct. 16), Temple (Oct. 17), Fordham (Oct. 24) and Duquesne.

Rhody closes out the season with three of its final matches at home as it welcomes George Washington (Nov. 1), La Salle (Nov. 8) and Fordham (Nov. 15) to close out the regular season.
