Box Score

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Rhode Island volleyball team (8-15; 1-9 Atlantic 10) came up short at Duquesne Friday night as it lost 3-2 at the Palumbo Center.

Juniors Lauren McIntosh (11) and Kayla Newberg (11), sophomore Kayla Wilson (11) and freshman Rachel Zarazan (10) each finished with 10-or-more kills to lead the team offensively.

Junior Kalyn Klaess led the way defensively with 17 digs. As a team, Rhody held the Dukes to a .198 hitting percentage.

URI jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to a 25-16 victory in the first frame, but the Dukes responded by winning the next two sets 25-20 and 25-16, respectively.

The Rams would not go quietly as they claimed a 25-14 triumph in the fourth set to even the match at two games apiece and force a fifth game.

In the fifth frame, Rhody fell behind 5-2 in the early going, but fought back to win four of the next five points to even the set 6-6. The Dukes would then go on to win nine of the last 14 points to secure a 15-11 match victory.

Rhody returns to action Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. as it welcomes George Washington to Keaney Gymnasium.
