Box Score | Postmatch Interview Part One | Postmatch Interview Part Two KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island volleyball team (2-4) opened play in the 2009 Art Carmichael Invitational Friday night with a 3-1 victory over New Hampshire. Rhody's win over UNH handed head coach Bob Schneck his 499th career victory and snapped URI's four-match losing streak. Senior Caitlyn Welsh (Narragansett, R.I.) led the Rams offensively with a season-best 19 kills. Welsh also recorded 12 digs to post her second straight double-double. Defensively for the Rams, junior Kalyn Klaess (Huntington Beach, Calif.) collected 24 digs to lead the way. Rhody opened the match with a 25-17 victory. Sophomore setter Candice Kolkka (Clovis, Calif.) had 12 assists in the frame and Lauren McIntosh led the way with four kills. Kolkka finished the match with a season-best 44 assists. UNH claimed the second set 25-23 to even the match, but Rhody fired back by posting a pair of 25-19 victories in the final two sets. As a team, Rhody outhit the Wildcats .269-.138. Rhody returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m. against Syracuse. Following its match against the Orange, the Rams will take on Brown, beginning at 7 p.m.
