Daugherty, Fraser Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

July 13, 2009

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Shayna Daugherty and Ananda Fraser were honored by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their academic and athletic achievement.

The USTFCCCA honors Division I individuals for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons.

Daugherty, a 2009 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District selection, was named the Field Performer of the Year at the 2009 A-10 Outdoor Track & Field championship on May 3. The Lincoln, R.I. native captured the high jump (5-8.75) and heptathlon (5118 points). She was also a member of the 4x400m relay team which placed third.

Daugherty finished third in the high jump at the 2009 A-10 Indoor championship meet and was honored as part of the A-10's Academic All-Conference team. She has compiled a 3.75 grade-point average as a communicative disorders major.

Fraser won the triple jump at the 2009 A-10 Outdoor Championship (39-7.25). She also finished third overall at the 30th Sun Angel Classic at Arizona State (39-1), while posting the top mark in the conference at the Hurricane Invitational in Miami, with a leap of 40-11.

A two-year letterwinner for URI's gymnastics team prior to joining the track program, Fraser won the 2009 New England indoor triple jump title, while placing second in the event at the 2009 A-10 Indoor championship. She has earned a 3.68 GPA as a coastal marine policy management major.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective event.
