Jennings took the title with a throw of 205-06 (62.64m) - just under two feet farther than the second place finisher. By virtue of her victory, she earns a trip to the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championship - held from June 11-14 at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. The preliminary rounds for the hammer will be contested on Wednesday, June 11. She is the first URI student-athlete to win a regional championship title. Jennings is also the first Rhody student-athlete to earn a trip to the outdoor national championship meet in over a decade. Michelle Fournier qualified for the 1997 NCAA Championship in the hammer. Teammate Sarah Thornton finished eighth overall in the standings, with a toss of 182-08 (55.69m). TyLynn Graham was eighth in the high jump, clearing a height of 5-7.25 (1.71m). In the regional championship format, the top five finishers in each event earn an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championship. Both student-athletes will find out if they earn a trip to nationals when the fields are announced on Monday.
