2008 URI New Years Classic Schedule

KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island women's indoor track & field team hosts the 2008 URI New Years Classis this Friday, January 11, beginning at 11 a.m. at Mackal Field House. Rhode Island will compete against the University of Massachusetts, the University of Southern Maine, and Central Connecticut State University.

The Rams are led by TyLynn Graham and Shayna Daugherty, who finished 1-2 at the URI Pentathlon last month. Rachel Barth, who finished 19th at the URI Pentathlon, paces the Blue Devils. This is the first event of the season for Massachusetts and Southern Maine, who captured the New England Division III Championship last year.

The event will begin with the field events (triple jump, long jump, pole vault, 20 lb weight, and shot put), followed by the running events at noon. The 55m dash trials kick things off, followed by the mile run, 55m hurdles, 400m final, 500m final, 55m dash final, 800m final, 1000m final, 200m final, 3000m final, 4x800m relay final, and 4x400m relay final.

The top seeds are as follows: 55m dash prelims - Caitlin Hurley (URI); one mile run - Shiyi Zan (UMass); 55m hurdles - TyLynn Graham (URI); 500m run - Brittany Bakanowski (UMass); 400m dash - Amber Price (URI); 1000m run - Erica Planamento and Lindsay Post (URI); 800m run - Gina Perno (UMass); 4x800m relay - Jennifer Curtin, Shiyi Zan, Gina Perno, and Samantha Sacchetti (UMass); 200m dash - Kathy Young (URI); 3000m run - Christina DeRosa (UMass); 4x400m relay - Brittany Bakanowski, Kristen Bakanowski, Holly Heinricher, and Danielle Bolt (UMass); long jump - Shayna Daugherty, Karyn Geoghan, and TyLynn Graham (5.18m); weight throw - Jasmine Jennings (URI); triple jump - Natatia Nugent (URI); high jump - TyLynn Graham (1.70m); shot put - Jasmine Jennings (13.25m); pole vault - Kristen Bakanowski (UMass).
