Sarah Thornton is in her second year as an assistant coach with the women's track and field team and works primary with the throwers.
Thornton holds a level one coaching certification from United States Track Field (USATF). She also brings a tremendous amount of experience to the coaching ranks after her decorated career at URI as a student-athlete.
During her four-year career, Thornton became the first thrower student-athlete to win four-consecutive Atlantic 10 titles in the discus. As a senior, the New York native competed in the hammer throw at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. At the end of her career, Thornton established a school record in the discus with a throw of 164 feet, 7 inches.
Thornton graduated in 2008 with a bachelor of science in Kinesiology.
