KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island freshman Kelly McCabe was the top collegiate finisher at the URI Pentathlon Friday afternoon at Mackal Fieldhouse. The 16th annual event was Rhody's first meet of the 2009-10 season.

McCabe finished the event with 3,438 points, which was good enough for second place overall. Her performance breaks the 21-year old URI freshman record, which was previous held by Cindy Buratti (1988).

In addition, McCabe's point total is tied for 10th in the all-time URI record book.

Rhody sophomore Marissa Norman (3,048 points), junior Stephanie Reusch (2,776 points) and Caroline Warren (2,669 points) also finished in the top 10 as they placed fifth, seventh and 10th, respectively.

The remainder of URI women's indoor track and field team will open the season at the Brown University Invitational on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
