Destiny Woodbury Beats Own School Record In The 400 Meter At UConn Invitational

STORRS, Conn. - Junior sprinter Destiny Woodbury (Providence, R.I.) beat her own school record in the 400 meter dash on Saturday at the UConn Invitational in Storrs, Conn. The team finished third overall at the meet with 82 total points.

Despite steady rain showers and swirling winds, Woodbury finished in a time of 55.84 to take first-place in the 400 meter dash shattering the old school record of 56.21 that she posted on April 9, also at UConn

Christina Bizon (Warwick, R.I.) placed first in the hammer throw with a mark of 163-feet-3 inches to beat her own personal best throw of 161-4, which she threw on April 1 at the South Florida Invitational. Her mark also moves her to sixth-place on the all-time performer list.

In the 100 meter dash, Caitlin Hurley (North Attleboro, Mass.) posted a season best time of 12.90 for eighth-place while Kristen McGill (Hingham, Mass.) placed 11th in the 200 dash in a time of 26.41.

Janet Pailes (North Attleboro, Mass.) finished third (2:20.93) in the 800 meter run while Kolleen McCauley (2:22.40, Red Bank, N.J.) and Emily Anderson (24.70, Westerly, R.I.) took fifth and seventh respectively.

Anderson also finished fourth in the 1500 meter run in a time of 4:47.63. Senior Megan O'Shea (Saratoga, N.Y.) ran a season best in a time of 4:47.95 for fifth-place and Katherine Guilfoyle (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) finished seventh with a season best time of 4:48.61.

In the 400 meter hurdles, Jen Strysko (Hillburn, N.Y.) placed second for eight points with a time of 1:04.11. Jamie Sweeney (Saratoga, N.Y.) also took second in the 3000 meter steeple with a season best time of 11:20.73 improving upon the junior-class record which she already holds.

Kristen Hinz (Dover, N.H.) threw a season best in the hammer with a mark of 138-06 for eighth-place while freshman Kristen Calamita (Ringwood, N.J.) finished second in the javelin with a throw of 115-04.

The Rams will be back in action on April 28-30 for the Penn Relays and again on May 1 as they compete at the Brown Invitational in Providence, R.I.
