Rams Remain Unbeaten With 7-0 Win Over Monmouth
Oct. 11, 2009
WAKEFIELD, R.I. - The Rhode Island tennis team kept its perfect record in tact with a 7-0 blanking of Monmouth, Sunday afternoon at The Prout School. The win improves the Rams' record to 3-0 on the season. "This match was such a solid effort from our entire team," said head coach Val Villucci."Out of a total of 111 games - which includes both doubles and singles - Monmouth was held to a minimum of winning only 10 games. Our women won 101 games. Percentage-wise, that's an amazing statistic." Rhody first earned the doubles point as Kirsten Leikem and Tristany Leikem paired up for an 8-1 win at No. 1 while Christen Cadigan and Brooke Hoover posted an 8-3 victory at No. 2. Amanda Barletta and Pam Emery, meanwhile, picked up an 8-1 win at No. 3. Rhode Island went on to win all six singles matches as Kirsten Leikem, Emery, Tristany Leikem, Cadigan, Barletta and Hoover earning victories at the No. 1-6 spots, respectively. The Rams are back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 14, when they travel to Massachusetts for a 3 p.m. match against the Minutewomen SINGLES DOUBLES
