Hedstrom Named to CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I First Team

May 21, 2009

2009 CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District At-Large Teams

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island senior Grace Hedstrom (Minnetonka, Minn.) was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I At-Large First Team, announced May 21. It marked the first time she received the accolade after turning in a 3.97 cumulative grade point average over her four-year career at URI.

Hedstrom left Rhode Island with 115 wins - 57 in singles wins and 58 in doubles. The three-year team captain also helped lead Rhody to three-consecutive New England Championship titles.

A three-time Atlantic 10 Academic All-Conference selection, her accomplishments in the classroom were just as impressive as she was on the Dean's List as well as the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll every semester throughout her collegiate career.

She also received the 2009 Elizabeth Holmes Award - presented annually to the URI male and female graduating senior who combined exceptional scholastic achievement with outstanding athletic talent - and represented URI at the 2008 NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Development Conference at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.

To be eligible for the Academic All-District award, student-athletes must have a minimum GPA of 3.30 and must be in their second year at the same institution to be eligible. Players are nominated by their respective school's sports information office and selections are the result of voting conducted among the sports information directors in each respective district.
