Peele, Hedstrom Earn Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis All-Conference Honors

April 30, 2008

PHILADELPHIA - For the second-consecutive season, Rhode Island sophomore Nyssa Peele (Austin, Texas) and junior Grace Hedstrom (Minnetonka, Minn.) have earned Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis All-Conference recognition. Peele received Second Team honors while Hedstrom landed a spot on the All-Academic team.

Peele received her second All-Conference award after capturing the Flight 1 title at the New England Championship in the fall and leading the Rams at the No. 1 position throughout the spring. She ended her sophomore campaign with a combined record of 41-30 (21-13 singles/20-17 doubles) and was one of just two Rams to reach 20-or-more wins in both singles and doubles this season.

Hedstrom, who was one of just six Atlantic 10 women's tennis players named to the All-Academic team, boasts a 3.96 GPA as a Psychology major. This year, she compiled an 18-18 singles record, playing mostly at No. 2 and No. 3, and was 18-15 in doubles, playing primarily at No. 1.

The 2007-08 URI women's tennis team, which took home its second-consecutive New England Championship title, finished with an overall record of 16-8 and tied Duquesne for seventh place at the Atlantic 10 Championship.
