Chacon and Emery Earn Atlantic 10 Weekly Tennis Honors

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island senior Valerie Chacon (Spring, Texas) and freshman Pam Emery (North Providence, R.I.) have been named Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Performer and Rookie of the week, respectively.
Chacon combined for a perfect 6-0 record last week with a pair of wins in singles and four more victories in doubles. In solo play, Chacon represented Rhody at No. 5 and defeated her opponents from Long Island and Florida Southern. She paired up with teammate Christen Cadigan (Medfield, Mass.) to record wins over Tufts, Long Island, Florida Southern and Oklahoma Baptist - all at the third position. Her performances over the week improved her to 9-2 in singles and 12-6 in doubles.
Emery went 6-2 on the week with two wins in singles and a perfect 4-for-4 showing at No. 2 doubles with teammate Amanda Barletta (New Providence, N.J.). Emery's two individual victories came against Tufts at No. 2 and against Long Island at No. 4. In doubles play, Emery and Barletta recorded wins over duos from Tufts, Long Island, Florida Southern and Oklahoma Baptist. Her performances over the week improved her to 14-4 in singles and 14-6 in doubles.
As a team, Rhode Island went 3-1 on the week to improve to 11-2 overall on the year. The Rams are back in action on Thursday afternoon when they host Quinnipiac at 3 p.m.
