Uy Captures Flight C Title at Stony Brook Classic

Setting the Scene
The Rhode Island tennis team travelled to Long Island to compete in the Stony Brook Classic this weekend. The invitational - which featured teams from Army, Bryant, Fairleigh Dickinson, Fordham, Marist, Navy, Rhode Island and Stony Brook - consisted of four singles flights and two doubles flights.

Top Performers
Freshman Kathleen Uy swept through her bracket with four straight wins to claim the Flight C Singles title. Classmate Karolina Wojciak, meanwhile, dropped her first Flight D match, but came back to win the Back Draw with three consecutive victories, as did senior Kirsten Leikem in Flight B singles.

Coaches Comments
We had a fabulous tournament with some very impressive wins. Freshman Kathleen Uy won her flight against some seasoned and experienced talent - quite an accomplishment. And after tough first round losses, Kirsten and Karolina regrouped and won the back draw of the tourney. Overall, a great showing for the Rams! - Rhode Island head coach Val Villucci
