Higuchi Named A-10 Co-Player of the Week; Loredo Wins Rookie Honors

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island junior Tiara Higuchi has been named the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Co-Player of the Week, while freshman Paulina Loredo is the league's Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday morning.

Higuchi won in both singles and doubles last week, leading the Rams to a 7-0 win over Sacred Heart in the team's lone match. Playing at No. 2 singles, Higuchi won her fifth straight singles match, dominating Brianne Lauria 6-0, 6-2. Higuchi also teamed with Loredo for a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles. 

In addition to the win with Higuchi, Loredo earned a singles win in the No. 3 spot against Sacred Heart. She defeated Lauren Santarsiero, 6-3, 6-1.

The victory was Rhode Island's fourth in five matches. The Rams are off until March 30, when they host Saint Joseph's.
