Chernykh and Wojciak Earn Atlantic 10 Accolades

2013 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis All-Conference Teams

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island freshman Galina Chernykh (Tomsk, Russia) has been named an Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis All-Conference First Team selection while sophomore Karolina Wojciak (Holmdel, N.J.) has earned All-Academic honors. The Rams have now had at least one All-Conference pick in each of the last seven seasons and have had an All-Academic performer in six of the last seven years.

Chernykh becomes the first freshman in the history of the Rhody tennis program to earn first team all-conference honors, and just the second ever Ram to land a spot on the A-10 First Team (Lara Maurer, 2007). The honor follows an outstanding freshman season where she posted a 15-4 dual match record at No. 1 singles and went 18-6 overall. She also represented Rhody at the top doubles position, winning 10 matches with sophomore Kathleen Uy.

The winner of 12 consecutive singles matches this spring - all at No. 1 - Chernykh was named A-10 Rookie of the Week on March 13. She also captured the Flight 1 singles title at the New England Championship back in October.

One of just six Atlantic 10 women's tennis players named to the All-Academic team, Wojciak boasts a 3.95 GPA as a Pharmacy major. Of the 33 women's tennis players on the A-10 Academic All-Conference ballot, she had the second highest grade point average as she was outdone only by Saint Louis senior Mia Elmore (3.97).

In just two years with the Rams, Wojciak has collected 21 singles wins and 18 doubles victories.
