Chernykh Named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island freshman Galina Chernykh has been named the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week, announced late Tuesday night by the conference office. The honor is the first of her career.

Chernykh was a perfect against Colorado State, notching a pair of wins at the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles positions. She first paired with sophomore Kathleen Uy to post an 8-5 victory at the top doubles position before taking down CSU's #1 player - Natalie Heffron - in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

A native of Tomsk, Russia, Chernykh currently leads the team with 13 wins on the year - eight in singles and five in doubles.

Rhode Island is back in action on March 18 when it hosts Holy Cross at 3:30 p.m.
