Rhody Swimming and Diving Defeats Wagner 148-114

Oct. 14, 2009

Throughout your swimming career, who is someone that you have been able to look up to and idolize in your sport?

"Jenny Thompson has always been a swimmer that I have been able to look up to and idolize because of what she has done for the sport.  Not only does Jenny have pool records at URI, but she has also competed at the Olympics in 1992, 1996, 2000, and 2004.  She made great strides for the sport and women athletes."

What is your favorite part about being on the URI Swim team?

"My favorite part about being on the URI Swim Team is that our team is a family.  We spend so much time together training at 5:45am that we are able to have very unique relationships with each other.  We are always there for each other and it is a great feeling to know that there is always someone who will listen to you.  The relationships made on this team are unlike any other friendships and will become a lifelong sisterhood."

With all the coverage Michael Phelps got during the Olympics have you noticed a change in your sport for the better?

"I have noticed a change in swimming for the better because I think that a lot more children want to start swimming because of his impact on the sport.  I think that the number of young girls who swim, has drastically increased since Michael Phelps performance at the Olympics in 2008."

What is your biggest swim memory and what happened?

"My biggest swim memory was last year at Atlantic 10 Championships when Katie Mangano, Alex Lalli, Melissa Flynn, and I broke the 200 yard Medley Relay record.  The record was about eight years old and it was such a great feeling knowing that we were able to accomplish that."

Being a senior, what are your feelings on the Blue - White meet?

"The Blue - White meet is a great opportunity for team, and I am excited to see everyone in a competitive environment.  It is definitely going to be a lot of fun and it is a great opportunity to build team comradery."

What is it like to race against past URI swimmers at the Alumni meet?

"It is exciting to get a chance to race against past URI swimmers after the Blue-White meet. It is also exciting to see people that graduated a couple years ago, but also to meet people who swam for the team before I was a part of it."

What is your favorite part about the Blue -White, Alumni weekend?

"My favorite part of the Blue White, Alumni weekend are the competitive opportunities that we will be given.  As a team, we have not practiced races, so this will be a great chance for everyone to show off how we have been working so hard.  It will be an exciting weekend!"
