Women's Swimming & Diving Sinks Vermont

KINGSTON, R.I. - Junior Karie Leonard (Pownal, Maine) won two events and was a member of the winning 200-yard medley relay team as the University of Rhode Island women's swimming & diving team defeated Vermont 205-93 Saturday at the Tootell Aquatic Center. Leonard won the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:03.20 and took first in the 200 backstroke in 2:17.84. She joined freshman Kelly Whalen (Dunstable, Mass.), freshman Alexia Pool (Montgomery Village, Md.) and junior Jillian Oresman (North Providence, R.I.) to win the 200 medley relay in 1:55.39. Pool also won two individual events, taking the 50 freestyle in a time of 26.11 seconds and winning the 100 butterfly in 1:02.97. Junior Jodi Tveitmoe (Westminister, Colo.) finished first in the 200 butterfly (2:11.45) and won the 200 individual medley (2:14.45). Freshman Alyse Mauro (Lake Forest, Ill.) won the 200 freestyle (1:57.09) and the 500 free (5:14.93). Freshman Kourtney McMenamin (Warrington, Pa.) won the 100 breaststroke (1:10.27) and the 200 breaststroke (2:29.53). Freshman Kelly Tyler (East Longmeadow, Mass.) won both diving events, taking the 1-meter dive with a score of 203.18 and winning the 3-meter dive with a score of 201.83. Sophomore Elaina Duggan (Portsmouth, R.I.) won the 100 freestyle (55.90 seconds).
The Rams (2-1) return to action at Duquesne on Nov. 22 with a meet against the Dukes and Fordham.
