KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island women's swimming & diving team defeated Maine for the first time ever by a score of 188-112 Saturday.

Junior Jodi Tveitmoe (Westminister, Colo.) and freshman Alyse Mauro (Lake Forest, Ill.) each won multiple events for the Rams (1-1).

Tveitmoe won the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:48.73, placed first in the 200 butterfly in 2:13.46, and won the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:23.27. Mauro won the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:57.84 and took first in the 100 freestyle in 54.60 seconds.

Sophomore Elaina Duggan (Portsmouth, R.I.) won the 50 freestyle in a time of 25.54 seconds, junior Ginny Sorrell took first place in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:09.28, and fresman Kourtney McMenimin took first place in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:29.24.

In diving Kelly Tyler took first place in both the 1 meter and 3 meter diving events with scores of 212.77 and 222.30.
