Women's Swimming Places Eighth at A-10 Championships

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The University of Rhode Island women's swimming & diving team placed eighth at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championships Saturday afternoon at St. Bonaventure University in New York. The Rams finished the meet with 215 points.

The University of Richmond captured first place with 690.5 points, followed by Xavier (488 points), Duquesne (470 points), Massachusetts (420.5 points), Fordham (414), St. Bonaventure (308 points), La Salle (225 points), URI, Saint Louis (174 points), and George Washington (189 points).

URI placed two student-athletes in the top 10 in the three-meter dive as sophomore Haley Johnson (East Longmeadow, Mass.) placed ninth (190.95) and junior Kelly Mohr (Meriden, Conn.) placed 10th (160.65). Freshman Lillian Falconer (Chicago, Ill.), meanwhile, swam to a 12th-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:08.95.

Junior Kelsey Foy (Fanwood, N.J.) placed 19th in 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:55.73 while freshman Tory Waldeisen (South Windsor, Conn.) placed 22nd with a time of 18:12.50. In the 100-yard freestyle, senior Cassandra Mizia (Manchester, Conn.) finished 14th with a time of 53.24.

In the 400-yard freestyle relay, the Rams' team of Mizia, Falconer, senior Maria Cieslewski (Watertown, Conn.), and senior Julie Kent (Ocala, Fla.) posted a fifth-place time of 3:31.16.
